English Heritage: Hadleigh Castle
Hadleigh Castle was begun about 1215 by Hubert de Burgh and extensively refortified by Edward III during the Hundred Years War, becoming a favourite residence of the ageing king.The ruin overlooks the Essex marshes.
There is no car park on site. Access from the road via a kissing gate. The closest train station is Leigh-on-Sea, 1.5 miles by footpath.
