English Heritage: Deal Castle
Built by the order of King Henry VIII, Deal Castle is one of the finest Tudor artillery castles in England, and among the earliest and most elaborate of a chain of coastal forts. A formidable fortress with wonderful views out to sea and long, dark passages that once linked a garrison of 119 guns, visitors are encouraged to discover the castle's history through interactive exhibitions.
Today you can explore the whole of the castle, from the storerooms to the first-floor captain’s residence. Cycle paths link Deal Castle and Walmer Castle along the beachfront.
