Built in the early 12th century, Edward I added a twin-towered gatehouse in 1292, once a crossbow bolt factory which used local Forest of Dean iron, then a debtor's prison, now a youth hostel in wonderful walking country.

Very limited free parking available. Local buses include 701 or 707 (Tue–Fri only) and 787 (Mon).
