English Heritage: Camber Castle
Formerly Winchelsea Castle, this 16th century Device Fort was built by Henry VIII to protect the Sussex coast from French attack.
The ruins became popular in the 18th and 19th centuries and were painted by JMW Turner.
Now a Grade I listed building, it is surrounded by Rye Harbour Nature Reserve with guided walks available to visitors.
Off-site parking is located a mile away. Rye Train Station is located 1.25 miles away.
