The remains of a 3rd century Roman fort that was part of a string of forts used for defence purposes, known as the 'Saxon Shore'. As one of the best preserved Roman monuments, Burgh Castle was built above the Waveney estuary and overlooks Breydon Water, providing dramatic views.

The castle can be reached by road, 3 miles west of Great Yarmouth or via the number five or seven bus from Great Yarmouth, followed by a short walk.
