Christ Church Spitalfields
Christ Church Spitalfields is one of the architectural treasures of London. Designed in the early 18th century by the great Sir Nicholas Hawksmoor, there's something very slightly eerie in the design of its looming and faintly menacing spire and facade which has caught the imagination of writers from Peter Ackroyd to Alan Moore. It's still a working church but also a music venue, with regular lunchtime recitals, often centred on the meticulously restored organ, originally built by Richard Bridge in 1735.
The nearest Tube is at Aldgate East and Liverpool Street, and the nearest mainline stations are Shoreditch High Street and Liverpool Street. The church is served by the 67 and 205 bus routes.
