September 28, 2pm, sees the unveiling of what is probably the first commemorative plaque on a council block in England. The plaque at Bevin Court, Cruickshank Street, Islington, honours maverick artist Cyril Mann (1911-1980), who did many of his finest paintings, sculpture and even pottery in the confines of a tiny 500sq ft flat. Coinciding with the unveiling, an exhibition of works done from 1956 to 1964, "The Bevin Court Years", can be seen at the Islington History Centre nearby. Everyone is welcome at the unveiling and, subject to space, come to the exhibition and reception afterwards.
