The most active producing theatre in East Anglia, The Mercury was formed in 1937 and touches more than 130,000 people each year thanks to its programme and community outreach.
The theatre, designed by Norman Downie, to the same design as the Salisbury Playhouse, was opened in 1972. The Digby Gallery is within the building.
It's located in the town centre, only five minutes walk from the bustling shops and bars, and a number of local bus routes stop nearby. The theatre is also within walking distance of both Colchester North and Colchester Town stations. Parking can be found close by at St Mary's and there are discounts for those attending a show at the Mercury.
