Owned by Andy Murray, managed by Inverlochy Castle Management International, with Albert Roux's consultancy overseeing the Chez Roux restaurant and chef Darin Campbell running it in a practical capacity, Cromlix is the alignment of a number of stars. It's a favourable partnership, one that won Scottish Hotel of the Year within a month of its opening on April 1st 2014. Campbell, who came to the hotel from Glasgow's One Devonshire Gardens, oversees several menus. The à la carte is as formal and French as you would expect from a Roux restaurant, with sample dishes such as pike mousse glazed with squat lobster sauce and Chateaubriand for two, carved table-side. Three course set menus are excellent value with lunch at £26.50 and dinner £29.50, while the more informal lounge menu is also more sensibly priced than you might expect at such a destination, encompassing snacks like potted kipper pate and rabbit rillettes, sandwiches, salads, and main meals including a mini burger slider, venison sausage and mash, and a fish and pasta of the day. For those whose idea of a quick lunch is four courses, there's a Roux Express option on the same menu for £16.50. At such a luxurious venue, afternoon tea is a big deal - there are three options here, from straightforward scones to the full-blown champagne tea.
