Records suggest the original farmhouse was built in the 15th century. Victorian industrialist Captain Onslow Powell Traherne extended the house and established the formal gardens during the 1910s. After several decades of public ownership the house fell into disrepair in the 80s. However Bryngarw Country Park was officially opened to the public in 1986 and renovation work on the house started in 1987, with the help of additional European funding in 1993.
Today Bryngarw House offers accommodation and is also available to hire for weddings and business events. The 113 acre park is open for wildlife walks, alongside open air theatre and other activities.
Easily accessible by car, taking J36 on the M4. First Cymru buses stop 10 minutes walk from the park, Bridgend rail station is approximately four miles away while Tondu station is only one mile away.
