Christ Church is unique among the Oxford and Cambridge colleges in possessing an outstanding collection of Old Master paintings and drawings – some 300 paintings and almost 2000 drawings, housed in a purpose-built gallery of considerable architectural interest. The collection is strongest in Italian art from the 14th–18th century and the drawings collection, bequeathed to Christ Church by General John Guise in 1765, is one of the most important in the country, including works by Leonardo, Michelangelo, Dürer, Raphael and Rubens.
