At more than 100 years old, Crewe's Lyceum Theatre is the oldest Edwardian theatre in Cheshire East. The original theatre was built in 1881 – with the first show being A Wonderful Woman (followed by Aladdin) – before the theatre's second incarnation came about in 1885; the New Lyceum Theatre opened in 1887. The theatre attracted the attention of some soon-to-be well-known stars, including Charlie Chaplin who appeared in Sherlock Holmes in 1906 and Stan Laurel, who performed in Sleeping Beauty in 1907.

In 1910 a fire gutted the theatre, but by 1911 there was a brand new venue once again and the theatre began to flourish. Over the years there has been appearances from the circus (in the 1930s–50s) and record-breaking attempts (including Syncopating Sandy, who played the piano for 194 hours, non-stop.

These days, the theatre welcomes a whole host of acts, including theatre, comedy, dance, music and more.

Free car parking is available after 6pm at the front of the theatre in Lyceum Square, plus there's more a short walk away at the Civic Centre. The main bus station is two minutes away by foot and is served by all local buses, while the train station is a 15 minute walk away.
