The Forum was converted in 1990 from a civic hall to a multi-purpose arts venue, and has become an important cultural hub for the town, supporting the creation of professional theatre, dance, visual arts and film in the area. It hosts touring theatre and music, stand–up comedy, talks and lectures and literary events.
Barrow station is about 15 minutes' walk to the north, and the Forum is served by the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 11 bus routes.
