The Guildhall

Portsmouth's fine neo-classical Guildhall was completed in 1890, but during WWII it was gutted by bombing and the subsequent restoration saw it lose its original dome and exterior decoration; it's still imposing but now has a curiously chopped-off look. It's one of the biggest event venues in the south-west, hosting art exhibitions, live music, festivals, theatre, magic shows, stand-up comedy, dance and conferences, with the main hall having a standing capacity of 2,500. It's also available as a spectacular wedding venue.

Portsmouth & Southsea station is adjacent to the hall, and it's served by the 7 and 19 bus routes.
