The tiny Charing Cross Theatre was built in 1866 underneath Charing Cross Station. Originally a music hall, in which form it sparked the imagination of the young Rudyard Kipling, it carried on the variety tradition for decades after it had died out elsewhere, as the Players Theatre. The Players closed in 2002 but in 2005 the theatre reopened under new management, where it continues to offer an eclectic mixture of drama, comedy, music and cabaret.

The nearest Tube stations are Charing Cross (Northern / Bakerloo) and Embankment (Circle / District), and the nearest surface rail is directly overhead. The theatre is served by bus routes 11, 15, 23, 91, N11, N15, N26, N91 and N551.
