The Royal Scotsman
The Royal Scotsman is the Caledonian branch of the Orient Express, and promises the luxury (and price tag) that name is famed for. Journeys range from two to seven nights, chugging from Edinburgh across the whole country, or looping down for a ‘Grand Tour of Great Britain’. Meals and drinks are included on every journey, and are a focal point. The former are created by executive chef Mark Tamburrini, and shoehorned out of a kitchen the size of most professional walk-in fridges. Cooked from scratch, ingredients are sourced along the train route, and could include foraged mushrooms, smoked fish from Inverawe Smokehouse and chocolates from Iain Burnett, the Highland Chocolatier.
