From its beginnings as an early cinema called the Picturedrome (first opened in 1914), the Connaught Cinema and RitzDigital have undergone some major changes, including time spent as a theatre, tea dance venue and, since 1987, a cinema once again, with fully modernised projection facilities. Now the building has 3D capability, a theatre studio, wheelchair access and some signed performances across the two screens.
