The family and close friends had the pleasure in celebrating my mothers’ recent Birthday and I thought that the Dovecliff Hall in Stretton would be the ideal venue.

I must confess, my wife and I have visited a number of halls on our years so we were quite excited to discover this reasonably local hall.

Firstly, let me say that the exterior of the hall had charm, but the interior of the hall, although spacious, did lack that that ore of quality. Take for example the lounge area, the decor was very dated and as for the reception. Well, being greeted by a gentleman who was not very well dressed... well, let us just say that it was rather unprofessional.

The three course dinner was rather pleasant. Not a great deal, but well cooked and to every ones taste.

The waiters were efficient, but refused to supplement the meal with additional vegetables. Apparently this was the chiefs’ decision... The waiters were only the messengers.

The drinks were terribly overpriced but the surprise at the end of the meal was that for a bill of over £450, 10% gratuity was also added.

NO! This is not London. If I was to pay for gratuity, then I decide how much and who this payment is awarded.

Some halls stipulate the gratuity on the menu or indeed, ask you at the time of paying the bill if you would like to consider this additional charge.

And sadly, the mangers choice to retain £70 of the deposit because of the snow preventing all of the attendees to visit was not appreciated.

It does not give me any pleasure in saying this but consider other venues before you book at the Dovercliff Hall Hotel.
