Fyne Ales

Hurtling on to the scene in 2001, Fyne Ales have made quite an impact in little over a decade of brewing, including launching annual beer festival FyneFest in 2010. Their range of beers, particularly bottled, is ever expanding. Encompassing the spectrum from dark beer Vital Spark, released in early 2012 to great acclaim, to its vaunted light session beers, look out for Avalanche, Piper’s Gold and Hurricane Jack, with special mention to Jarl. Newly released in 2013 is 5.5% draught IPA Muckle Flugga, the hoppiest offering from Fyne so far - it's brewed using a very rare hop called Riwacka, in the usual course of things no longer exported outside New Zealand. The brewery, located on a working farm at the head of Loch Fyne, now has a new visitor centre complete with bar to allow sampling of the beers direct at source.

Beer is the star at FyneFest, with a wide variety of brews from the UK and beyond, though it takes pains to be kid-friendly with various entertainments, and of course a slew of live music.
