Farm shop and café with good, fresh cooking and fantastic views
This family business which has taken the basic idea of a farm shop and ran with it. Craigie’s offers an impressive range of deli goods and butchery (from Steve Mitchell of Fife), woodland walks, a playpark and animal visiting for kids, with pick your own fruit in the summer season. Yet for most the main attraction will be the excellent café. Blessed with an impressive view down the valley into the Firth of Forth, the range of simple café classic meals – ploughman’s lunch, stovies in winter, lunchtime specials and breakfasts in the morning – are notable for the freshness of the ingredients, and so busy is the place at the weekend that you don’t need to worry about anything lying on a hotplate all afternoon.
Whether you nip in for their great value butchery deals or make a day of it with the kids, Craigie’s has built up a farm shop that draws visitors from near and far. There’s a community feel to the place, and it’s a very functional shop, rather than being a deli where you pick up one or two treats. The treats are there, but so is a well-priced butchery counter operated by Puddledub Pork, a good array of cheese, pies and charcuterie, and fruit and veg from the farm. They keep it local and Scottish as far as possible, from their own jams to beer and Thistly Cross cider, biscuits to ice cream. Regular tastings run throughout the year, and are advertised on the events page of their website and on Facebook.
