From the first Saturday in March until the last in October, the stadium of Cowdenbeath FC goes mental after 6pm. This isn't some extended celebration of the team known incongruously as the Blue Brazil, but the appointed hour for the stock cars to take over. £10 for an adult and £5 for concessions (championship meetings are occasionally more expensive) will earn you access alongside around 1000 others to watch 16 races in all formulas, from the self explanatory Ministox up through the Hot Rods and Stock Rods to the heftier F2. The smell of petrol and burgers mixing in the Fife air is fantastic.

This is for an absolutely awesome and very different night out.
Don't think this is a bit like the dull motorsport you see on telly. Stock-car racing is raw, potentially violent (on the track, that is), and it makes football seems very very unispiring.
Stock car races are usually much faster than people expect, very action packed, quite noisy, and can seem like utter confusion - but there is a method to the madness.
You're free to walk around the pits and meet the drivers. You can walk around the length of the circuit, or sit in a grandstand. You'll be only a few feet away from cars going past you very quickly.
You can travel to Cowdenbeath by car, and there's plenty of parking, or you can get the train to Cowdenbeath from Waverley. The station is only a few yards from the track.
If you're going in winter do dress warm, and be prepared for some waiting around if they have to clear up a particularly bad accident.
This is a sport attracting all kinds of people from all over Scotland, England, and further afield. Try several meetings, as each formula is different. You'll either be sucked into this and love it, or hate it.
