Easily reached on foot from Fochabers, this enchanting wood is a maze of old paths and tracks dating back to the 19th century. There are two waymarked trails. The longer green walk, crosses the lower burn through a shady dell while the upper reaches give fine views over the Moray countryside. Wend your way through pine and heather to Jean Carr’s Stone. This stone marks the sometime home and reputedly the final resting place of Jean Carr. A distracted character, ousted as a child snatcher, she took refuge wandering in these woods. Ordiequish also has four linked mountain bike trails ‘The Soup Dragon’ is a green trail that includes a ‘skills area’. ‘Gordzilla’ is a blue trail for those looking for a little more excitement and linking up with ‘The Haggis’, another blue trail but not too demanding. ‘The Gully Monster’ is a black trail, full of technical interest.
