Ferrywood is a mixed wood of old Scots Pine and native broad-leaved trees. The walk follows the shore of Loch Shin where you can regularly see black throated divers in summer. Two ponds have been created in the wood and are great places to see frogs and dragonflies. There are several interesting ancient features along the walk route - a broch at the furthest point of the walk and nearby a hut circle. Both these features are over 2000 years old and would have been prominent in the lives of the Pictish people that lived in this area at the time. Archaeological sites are interpreted in Ferrycroft Countryside Centre, open April to October.
