Have been drinking in the pub on and off for 30 years now. Wouldn't call myself a regular but in maybe half a dozen times a year. Agree with most of West Ender's comments. However, I had a bad experience with the bar staff last night.

I had been in for a couple of hours and it had become quite busy. I was standing at the bar waiting to be served when a regular (ie. in every day type) walked in and stood behind me. One of the staff saw him standing behind me, nodded to him and poured him a pint whilst I and other customers stood waiting to be served.

When I got served I made my complaint about this to the person concerned in a polite manner. When I did so another member of staff became hostile and asked me what my problem was. The staff obviously do not see a problem with this type of behaviour but I do.

This pub has now lost my trade for good, there are plenty other pubs in the area where the staff do not behave like this and I will be frequenting them from now on.

Had the pleasure of catching Matt Malone at the Aragon on Byres Rd last night. This young man performed a short set of divine stripped back folk in its purest form. He gave it all during "Mama Rock Me", vocally coursing lyrics over guitar and breathing a gentle harmonica. His beautiful, gentle voice re-affirming "Peggy Gordon" a song I last heard being sung by Sinead O'Connor. I was overwhelmed by the accomplishment of his guitar picking for someone so young it, for me, is astonishing. His self-penned "Memories" was picked with a fineness of outstanding musicianship, with gospel references and gentle, soft beautiful melody. Throw in a nice touch of blues to his voice and I cannot praise him enough. For me, thoroughly outstanding musician and should go far.

Toilets need refurbished. Gents constantly flooding. Hole in the ceiling of the gents really inspires confidence! Over £3 for a lager! No food available. Staff can be "frosty" at times but that is hardly surprising considering the environment they have to work in.

You will always get served though as the place never seems to be busy. I went on a Friday night and there was under 20 people in. Place used to be great - Loads of real ales etc. Now there appears to be only two and one guest ale. Sadly another pub in the west end that has seen better days........
