I must have driven along the coast road hundreds of times without realising that such a beautiful ruined monastry was so near. Many walls and arches including a double Norman pair of arches still exist giving a clear idea of the layout of the buildings. The walk up the valley is a dog walkers delight, you can reach Holwell on the route of what was once Britains steepest railway. On the right is a series of ruined mills from the industrial revolution, cotton mills and copper plate mills all powered by the stream that runs down the valley. St Winifreds Well, once 'The Lourdes of Wales' sits at the top of the valley, all well worth a visit!
