Birnam Arts and Conference Centre hosts touring musicians, classical concerts, theatre shows, talks and lectures, and is available for private hire. It was born of the old Birnam Institute, which opened in 1883 and closed in the 1990s. The current building opened in 2001 and has won multiple awards for its design.

Birnam Arts Centre on Station Road encompasses the Foyer Café and a Beatrix Potter museum – and the two meet in the Peter Rabbit kids menu. Breakfasts and lunches feed appetites ranging from Hunca Munca to Pigling Bland, with rolls, toast and the full monty available 10am to noon, with soup, sandwiches, toasties and mains like falafel burger, wedges and minted yoghurt between noon and 2.30pm (3pm in summer – when you can cool off at their counter of Stewart Tower Dairy ice cream).
