Eating & Drinking Guide

As one of capital’s best-known weekly ceilidh spots, Ghillie Dhu has built up a reputation for its bustling ambience and buoyant atmosphere, made all the more appealing by a strong focus on live music and traditional Scottish food and drink. The menu features Scottish pub staples, from haggis, neeps and tatties to indulgent pies, while the more lavish additions such as braised Orkney beef cheek are not out of place and give a fuller picture of what the restaurant has to offer. Visit on a Friday or Saturday evening for the full-on Scots experience, expecting your heart, soul (and stomach) to be well and truly filled. But it’s not just a tourist hotspot; Ghillie Dhu’s relaxed and rustic décor, extensive drinks list, and private booths behind the bar area cater perfectly to after-work drinks or informal catch-ups as well as weekend nights out.

Where to find traditional music nights in Edinburgh

16 Feb 2011

The venues full of traditional live Scottish music every night of the week

Has gone downhill fast. Dreadful service. I've been here on about 4 occasions and all has been well, however my last visit, mid January 2011, was terrible. Service very poor, when the table was booked we asked for a table of 10 only to be given 2 tables of 5! If I didnt want to sit with my friends I would have asked for separate tables myself. Reduced menu on the night that we were not told about and the waitress demanded our bill be paid before 10pm because she wanted to 'settle everything up' even though we had not finished eating. Complaining has proved useless. I've sent 3 emails and not one has been responded to. I won't be going back.
