St Andrews has had a Botanic Garden since 1889, but the present one dates back to 1960. There are several glasshouses and gardens devoted to specific types of plants, and as of April 2015 the garden has a Gruffalo trail, with wooden carvings of characters from the children's book lurking amid the shrubbery.
