Around 19 miles east of Edinburgh and two miles north of North Berwick, Dirleton Castle is a fortress whose origins date to the 13th century. The structure, which includes a pit-prison, chapel and cavernous storage vaults, is set within extensive gardens from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
