Love, Death and Dirty Divas with Liz Lochhead
Poetry and Music from Liz Lochhead with Steve Kettley, David Cameron, Philip Hammond and Eugene Kelly
From the bittersweet to the rude and raunchy, Liz Lochhead mixes poems and monologues to spellbinding effect, accompanied here by the witty, soulful saxophone of Steve Kettley.
Liz Lochhead was Scots Makar - the National Poet for Scotland - from 2011 to 2016, and was awarded the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry in 2015. Here she will be joined by poet David Cameron who received the Hennessy Literary Award for Poetry in 2014, and the composer Philip Hammond who will play piano on 'I Never Knew', a cycle of David's poems set to music by David Jaeger. There will also be music from Eugene Kelly, who was a leading member of The Vaselines, a band championed by Kurt Cobain (Nirvana covered two of their songs). Eugene recorded and toured throughout the 1990s with his new band Eugenius, and released the solo album Man Alive in 2004.
Expect songs, poems and laughter in this lively evening, featuring one of Scotland's greatest poets.
