Out of the Marvellous

**'***Talking to Seamus Heaney about poetry is like going for a swim in the ocean. You immerse yourself in the immensity of his knowledge about the art, you feel better for having done so, but you know there are depths you will never reach' *

Charlie McCarthy, Director of Our of the Marvellous

Widely considered to be the definitive documentary of the life and work of Seamus Heaney, Out of the Marvellous is an intimate and all-embracing exploration of the man and his work. Created in 2009 by IceBox Films for RTE to celebrate the poet's 70th birthday, the documentary explores his personal relationships and his work, following him to Harvard, London and New York for readings, engagements and signings. This joyful documentary uses Heaney's poetry to reveal a man who used his gifts to give expression to the great themes in all our lives of love, loss and longing.

Following a screening of Out of the Marvellous, director Charlie McCarthy will be in conversation with journalist and BBC broadcaster Mark Carruthers.
