Chris Evans has dropped the biggest hint yet he is departing his role as Captain America after next year's 'Avengers 4', admitting he wants to do so before he is axed
Chris Evans wanted to depart his Captain America role before he was axed.
The 36-year-old actor is expected to hang up his superhero character's vibranium-steel alloy shield following the release of next year's 'Avengers 4' movie, and he has confirmed he wanted to leave the part before he was let go.
Speaking about playing Captain America in the upcoming 'Avengers: Infinity War' and next year's fourth film, he said in a profile piece in the New York Times newspaper: "You want to get off the train before they push you off."
Evans filmed the two Marvel movies back-to-back last year and he also admitted he expects the upcoming autumn re-shoots to mark the end of his tenure in the red, white and blue superhero suit.
The Hollywood star's comments come after his Marvel Cinematic Universe co-star Robert Downey Jr. - who plays Iron Man in the 'Avengers' movies - recently admitted he is going to feel lost when Evans departs the role.
He said: "I feel like my instinct would be to bust his jaw.
"All I know is that there's something about being on camera with Evans. I hate to say it, but I don't know what I'm gonna do when he's not Cap anymore.
"I look at him and think this is the truest, most down moral psychology I've ever seen and then they go, 'Cut!' and Chris is like, 'Hey buddy, I gotta get out of here'.
"I'm like, 'You wanna go to dinner?' 'Nope'. 'OK. Love you. Love you, Cap. I mean, Chris.' "
Evans recently insisted no other actor could ever play the role of Iron Man/ Tony Stark as well as Downey Jr.
He explained: "He really just opens his arms and it sounds so cheesy, but he makes it a family and none of this would happen without him.
"No matter what it feels like for me, I try to imagine what it feels like for him, because he really did start this. He really is so irreplaceable.
"Nobody can ever be Iron Man. It's not a role like Superman or Batman that can kind of find different incarnations, no one can touch it."
