Franz Ferdinand have been announced as the headliners for The British Sound Project, which takes place at Manchester's Victoria Warehouse on Sat 22 Sep. Presale tickets for the show go on sale at 9am on Wed 7 Feb for those who're registered in advance. Tickets go on general sale at 10am on the same day.

The Scottish artpop act will be joined by The Cribs, for what should be a veritable knees up for fans of British indie music.

Having released their fifth album, Always Ascending, last month, Franz Ferdinand bring their new expanded lineup to Manchester for the festival in September. Julian Corrie (Miaoux Miaoux) and Dino Bardot (1990s) joined the band on keys and guitar prior to the recording of the new record, replacing the departing Nick McCarthy.

The pounding title track and 'Feel The Love Go' show the band haven't lost their knack for a hook, with their live show still packing a serious punch almost 15 years after they ripped up the indie rulebook with their Mercury Prize-winning debut.

Also performing on Sat 22 Sep are The Cribs. The brothers Jarman – Gary, Ryan and Ross – from Wakefield, released their seventh studio album 24-7 Rock Star Shit last year, and also celebrated the 10th anniversary of fan favourite Men's Needs, Women's Needs, Whatever with a series of celebratory shows.

Co-founder Steven Wood says: 'We're very excited to have Franz Ferdinand on board for our third British Sound Project. With The Cribs confirmed and other big names under our belts, it's looking like the strongest line up to date, and it feels good to be established on the festival calendar.

'This year we've dropped the age restriction to 14, to give more people chance to come along and enjoy the music. Plus we're starting earlier - the doors will open at 2pm - to allow more bands to play.' The full lineup for the event is still to be announced, but includes Prose, Larkins, Glass Caves and Berries.
