Paisley's bid to be the UK City of Culture for 2021 steps up its pace with an array of events being announced for the coming months.

Paisley Christmas Lights Switch-On
Gather up all members of your family and get some pals along as Santa and his reindeer bring some special friends, including Northern Irish rockers Ash, along for the ride. The fun starts at 1.30pm with the switch being flicked around 6pm. 18 Nov

Renfrew Christmas Lights Switch-On
The first true sign that Christmas is speeding towards us is the annual switching on of those town centre lights. In Renfrew town centre, the family fun will commence at 12pm with the area being lit up around 5pm. 25 Nov

Johnstone Christmas Lights Switch-On
The festive spirit gets into full swing in Johnstone's town centre from 11am with Santa's Grotto in Houston Square, the St Vincent's Hospice Christmas Market, face painting and a whole heap of kids' entertainment. The big switch-on occurs at 5pm. 2 Dec

The MG Alba Scots Trad Music Awards
The 15th annual Scots Trad Music Awards (also known as the Folk Oscars) comes to Paisley's Lagoon Leisure Centre with the likes of The Shee Big Band, Siobhan Miller, Jenna Reid & Harris Playfair, Snuffbox and Màiri NicAonghais performing during the ceremony. 2 Dec

Monte Carlo Historic Rally
If classic rally cars are your thing, then make your way to Abbey Close, from where some stunning motors will depart on the only UK start leg for the Monte Carlo Historic Rally. 31 Jan

British Pipe Band Championships
The Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association's summer tournament season kicks off with the British Pipe Band Championships in Paisley. Prepare to tap your toes and nod your heads as the cream of the UK's pipe bands go head to head. 19 May

Weave Festival and Sma' Shot Celebration
Taking its name from a famous 19th century dispute between local shawl weavers and manufacturers, this celebration will feature hundreds of participants and performers depicting Paisley's history as a global textile hub. 6–8 Jul
