Video premiere: The Deportees – I Lost Her to the Sea

Watch an exclusive premiere for the Deportees new track

'I Lost Her to the Sea' is the new video from Aberdeen five-piece The Deportees. Inspired by the group's Celtic roots, as well as Americana and 1980s folk rock, the band are set to release their debut album, The Birth of Industry, in November.

'I Lost Her to the Sea' is a beautiful lilting tune, replete with soaring harmonies and soundscape vibes.

'The song is a reasonably old one of ours but with a new lease of life, having been re-recorded in a higher key for the album. We wanted a pop song but with a dark lyrical theme. Not too dark, of course, just a nice wee dose of relationship turmoil,' says guitarist Adam Keenan.

'The video was recorded by our hugely talented friend and photographer, Alana Nabulsi. We used a music venue in Aberdeen, and it was done in four hours. The first part is obviously one unedited take so we had to nail the perfect one: lip syncing, pacing, etc. We're delighted with the result, although it's something completely unrelated to the theme of the song. In a different financial climate maybe we would've had the big water tank, shark cages, actors and all that. But you've got to live within your means.'

Have a watch of the video below.

The Birth of Industry (self-released) is out Fri 3 Nov. The Deportees launch the album Sat 4 Nov at Dunbar Street Hall, Aberdeen.
