Celtic rock group from Skye announce show on Fri 17 Aug due to overwhelming public demand
Runrig are to play an additional farewell concert in 2018 due to overwhelming public demand, with tickets on sale on Thu 5 Oct at 10am.
The Celtic rock group had previously announced a show at Stirling's City Park on Sat 18 Aug, and after that gig sold out in minutes the hugely popular band, which formed in Skye in 1973, made the decision to add another show on Fri 17 Aug.
In the grounds of Stirling Castle, fans will get another chance to take part in The Last Dance, singing their hearts out to tracks like the alternative national anthem 'Loch Lomond'.
Runrig released their final studio album The Story in 2016, and have made the difficult decision to stop performing live.
A statement on the band's Facebook page before the announcement read: 'We are now simply at that point in time where longevity and circumstance have to be balanced against what is right for the art and the muse. We feel that the time for this decision is now upon us, and we embrace it with a sense of positivity but tinged with understandable sadness and reflection.
'Taking the decision in 2015 to record the final studio album, The Story was a positive decision for us all. It was musically cathartic, creatively exciting, and it brought our recording career to a completed circle. It was very much a closing statement. We want to do the same for the live side of the band.
'To leave it unresolved would be a negative: to complete the circle with a series of farewell shows and celebrate our story together is the positive, meaningful, Runrig thing to do.'
Tickets for Runrig at Stirling's City Park on Fri 17 Aug 2018 go on sale at 10am on Thu 5 Oct at 10am.
