Scottish charity to act as the official partner for the Scottish leg of Bon Iver's tour
The Young Women's Movement will join up with Bon Iver to be the official charity partner for the Edinburgh date of the band's UK tour. Alongside Bon Iver's own campaign, 2 A Billion, the Young Women's Movement will be raising awareness of gender equality at the band's Edinburgh Playhouse shows on Wed 27 & Thu 28 September.
The Young Women's Movement has been working on promoting feminism and gender equality for 160 years. Their vision is for a world where women's voices are heard, respected and celebrated, and their role in this vision is to create safe spaces where women and girls become champions of their own rights and their own lives. So it is the perfect charity to team up with Bon Iver's #2Abillion, a campaign that seeks to raise support, awareness and person-to-person connections in order to end gender inequality, domestic violence and sexual abuse.
'We are very excited and honoured to be partnering with The Young Women's Movement on our 2 A Billion campaign in Edinburgh,' say the Bon Iver team. 'Creating positive spaces for women to educate, empower, and advocate for themselves is of the utmost importance, especially in current times. We've felt very inspired and energized by their work, and are eager to engage fans around it in meaningful ways.'
Kara Brown, Director of The Young Women's Movement, says: 'We connect the dots between young people and gender inequality and we are truly youth-led with a CEO under 30 and Board of young women. After a particularly difficult year this is such an exciting opportunity for our organisation to promote the work that we do in partnership with a group of people that really get it. Our Edinburgh team are huge fans of Bon Iver and it's a privilege to partner with the band and promote their 2 A Billion campaign.'
