The longlist will be unveiled at a brand-new live event at Glasgow's O2 ABC, featuring Admiral Fallow, Steve Mason and Mungo's Hi-Fi
The longlist for this year's Scottish Album of the Year Award will be revealed in front of a live audience at a special event at Glasgow's O2 ABC on Wed 24 May. Live at the Longlist will see Admiral Fallow, Steve Mason and Mungo's Hi-Fi performing, alongside the all-important announcement of the 20 chosen albums.
Produced by the Scottish Music Industry Association (SMIA), the SAY Award is Scotland's national music prize, annually recognising and celebrating the best Scottish albums around. With such an abundance of talent within the Scottish music scene, countless eligible albums are nominated for the prize each year, with 20 albums eventually making up the SAY Award longlist. This is then whittled down to a shortlist of 10 by a panel of judges, with one of the shortlisted albums being chosen by the public during a 72-hour vote.
Robert Kilpatrick, Projects and Operations Manager at SMIA, said, 'To announce this year's SAY Award Longlist, we're delighted to introduce this fantastic new live music event in Glasgow, allowing music fans to engage with the award more than ever before. Admiral Fallow, Steve Mason and Mungo's Hi-Fi have each been celebrated through previous SAY Award campaigns for fantastic album releases, so what better way to announce this year's top 20 albums than by inviting them to play at 'Live at the Longlist', a new event celebrating great Scottish albums both old and new.'
Former winners of the prestigious award have included RM Hubbert, Young Fathers, Kathryn Joseph and Anna Meredith, who staved off stiff competition to win the prize last year. The 20 longlisted albums will be in the running to win the £20,000 prize and the title of Scottish Album of the Year 2017, which will be announced at a ceremony on Wed 28 Jun in Paisley's Town Hall.
Live at the Longlist will be at O2 ABC, Glasgow, Wed 24 May. Tickets on sale Wed 12 Apr from 10am at sayaward.com.
