Richard Hammond has dismissed his motorbike accident while filming 'The Grand Tour' as a "slight shunt" and insisted he is fine

Richard Hammond insists he is "fine" following his recent motorbike accident while filming 'The Grand Tour'.

The 47-year-old TV presenter was reportedly knocked unconscious when he fell off his bike in remote Mozambique, but he has downplayed the incident and described it as a "slight shunt".

He wrote on his Drivetribe blog: "Yes I fell off but yes I'm fine. Sorry.

"Thanks for enquiries re my slight shunt whilst filming for GT.

"I can confirm that yes, I fell off a bike, many times, in fact and yes, I banged my head and everything else. But life goes on."

However, Richard's co-presenter Jeremy Clarkson said his friend had been "quite badly" injured in the crash.

He told The sun newspaper: "He really did hurt himself quite badly."

But asked if he needed hospital treatment, he added: "We don't do hospitals."

It had been claimed the presenter's accident caused "instant horror", especially as the show was filming in a "very remote" area.

A source said: "Richard was travelling quite fast when he came off. It caused instant horror on set. There was a lot of concern.

"If his injuries had been serious it wouldn't have been easy to get medical attention. It's very remote there and facilities are basic."

And sources say the accident was even more terrifying because it reminded everyone of when Richard was injured in a horror smash 11 years ago, after he lost control of a jet car while filming 'Top Gear'.

The insider added: "The lads are known for having a laugh on set but Richard's previous accident is fresh in their minds. They were all shaken by the latest incident.

"But now they know Richard is fine they are back to jokes and banter."
