Iconic Glasgow club night celebrates 20 years with one-day fest featuring Apeiron Crew, The Black Madonna, Ben UFO, Errorsmith and more
In 1997 Optimo opened at the Sub Club in Glasgow. Now DJs Twitch and Wilkes are throwing a very special party to celebrate 20 years of cutting edge club culture. On Sun 6 Aug they will be taking over SWG3 and the adjacent Galvinizer's Yard for a full day of music, DJs and live acts across three stages.
The lineup is suitably eclectic, featuring Apeiron Crew, Aurora Halal, Avalon Emerson, The Black Madonna, Ben UFO, Errorsmith, Happy Meals, King Aysioba, K-N-P, Midland, Miss Red + The Bug, Optimo (Espacio) and Sofay, as well as more acts to be confirmed.
Optimo was masterminded by DJs Twitch and Wilkes as a place where they could play their favourite records irrespective of genre. Where punk could follow techno or rub shoulders with dub reggae and electro. With their open-minded music policy Optimo slowly grew to become one of the Glasgow's most iconic club nights, packing out the Subbie every Sunday. In 2010 Twitch and Wilkes called time on their weekly Sub Club parties, but continue to host special parties across Scotland and DJ around the world.
'2017 marks the 20th anniversary of Optimo (Espacio),' they explain. 'We could never have imagined that what started out as a small gathering of like minded freaks would flourish and endure two decades later. We felt this was something that deserved celebrating so to mark this event we have decided to put on a one-day festival / party in conjunction with our friends at SWG3. We will be the first music event to take over the Galvanizer's Yard next door to the SWG3 complex, as well as using parts of the building to present three stages that we feel represents the music and ethos Optimo has loved and championed over the years.'
