Hit musical lands at the Playhouse for a month, as part of its UK tour
Record-breaking production Wicked has been winning over audiences across the world since its premiere on Broadway in 2003. Now fans of the hit musical in Edinburgh will get the chance to join in on the action as Wicked is set to fly into the Playhouse from Tue 8 May–Sat 9 Jun 2018. Tickets are on sale now.
The touring production will visit a number of locations all over the UK and Ireland, giving musical-lovers the opportunity to experience the show's magic. Since its opening, the show has become the ninth longest-running Broadway production and the 17th longest-running in West End history, continuing to remain popular with theatre-goers everywhere.
The re-imagining of L. Frank Baum's classic The Wonderful Wizard of Oz tells the story of two young students, Elphaba and Galinda, who spark up an unlikely but deep friendship. The musical is told from their perspective, tracing the events that lead to the fulfilment of their destinies as the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good.
The original production featured Idina Menzel as Elphaba and Kristin Chenoweth as Glinda, and won three Tony Awards, six Drama Desk Awards and a Grammy for best original cast album.
The upcoming tour of Wicked will see the show visit 10 cities, starting in Bristol's Hippodrome and finishing up at Manchester's Palace Theatre in January 2019.
