Ruby Rose is in talks to join the cast of 'Pitch Perfect 3'.

The 30-year-old actress has begun the negotiations to secure a part in the next instalment of the musical comedy franchise, which is set for release in 2017.

Ruby will join returning cast members Anna Kendrick - who plays lead character Beca - Rebel Wilson, who plays Fat Amy, and Brittany Snow, who portrays the role of Chloe, who have all already signed up to take part in the upcoming movie.

As of yet, details of Ruby's role in the production have not been revealed, and details of the story - which has been written by Kay Cannon with additional drafts from Mike White and Dana Fox - have also not yet been announced.

Directorial duties will come from Trish Sie, who is taking over from Elizabeth Banks after her work behind the camera for 'Pitch Perfect 2'.

Elizabeth will, however, be reprising her role as Gail, as well as remaining on the producing team with her husband Max Handelman of Brownstone Productions, and Paul Brooks of Gold Circle Entertainment.

And Ruby will no doubt be hoping the filming process goes without a hitch, as she recently revealed she almost drowned during the filming of a water scene for the movie 'Meg', and was even more worried when the director John Turteltaub thought she was just acting for the intense shark scene, rather than trying to rescue herself.

Ruby said: "John thought I was acting, and I was acting for a little bit, but then I really needed them to throw me something to get out of the water.

"(John) was like, 'Just hold, this is great, this is amazing.' And I was thinking, 'This is not fantastic, I'm sinking'."

'Pitch Perfect 3' is slated for release on December 22 2017.

The Bellas are all struggling in the workplace after leaving college, so they get the old gang back together to tour European army bases. It plays out as an entertaining variety show mixed with an action thriller, with enough energy to deliver cheesy and diverting fun.
