Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life

Gilmore Girls, The Crown, Divines and The Ivory Game among November highlights on Netflix

The end of November brings the highly anticipated return of fast-talking coffee addicts Rory and Lorelai in Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life (25 Nov). We follow the mother-daughter duo through the four seasons with four separate 90-minute episodes. An on-point teaser recently appeared with the two of them discussing whether Amy Schumer would like Lorelai.

Clare Foy stars as a young Queen Elizabeth II alongside Matt Smith as Prince Phillip in Netflix original series The Crown (4 Nov). Peter Morgan who also wrote The Queen, Frost/Nixon and The Other Boleyn Girl is credited as the creator in a show directed by Stephen Daldry that is rumoured to be the most expensive Netflix original series to date costing £100 million.

Houda Benyamina's fantastic debut feature, Divines (18 Nov), was snapped up quickly by Netflix after it premiered at Cannes Film Festival this year. The self-taught director tells the story of a couple of teenage girls growing up in Paris who turn to selling drugs as a means to dig their way out of poverty. Though hard-hitting at times this coming-of-age movie is also funny, heartening and inventive. It features an incredible performance from newcomer Oulaya Amamra who is at turns mischievous and commanding.

Another festival hit appears in the form of documentary thriller The Ivory Game (4 Nov). Executive produced by Leonardo DiCaprio, it's an expose of ivory trafficking that shows the shocking practices directors Richard Ladkani and Kief Davidson discovered when they went undercover for 16 months in China and Africa.
