A guide to the bonfire night fireworks displays in and around Newcastle and the North East 2017

What time are fireworks in Gateshead, North Tyneside and Durham

In Newcastle, Broadway West Playing Fields are host to Gosforth Round Table's bonfire night celebrations (Sat 4 Nov). There's a range of attractions and refreshments available and all proceeds go to charity. In Gateshead, more than 30,000 people visit Saltwell Park to watch their huge fireworks display (Sat 4 Nov). There's also a children's fairground, a bonfire and live music performances from some of the North East's best emerging talent. At Blaydon RFC (Sat 4 Nov) there is a fairground and food to enjoy. The bonfire is lit at 6pm before the main event at 7.45pm.

Over in North Tyneside you can celebrate bonfire night early at Segedunum Roman Fort, Baths and Museum in Wallsend fireworks display (Thu 2 Nov). The museum and cafe are open for free from 4pm, with the display at 6.30pm so head down early. At Whitney Park in Benton, there's the Annual Blue Flames Centre Fireworks Spectacular (Sun 5 Nov) with stalls, hot food, children's fairground rides and bars. Tynemouth Cricket Club (Sat 4 Nov) has a firework display for all the family with fairground rides, food stalls, bars and a raffle. On the coast South Shields Fireworks Display marks the end of the season at Ocean Beach Pleasure Park, the Pleasure Park is open from noon until 10pm on the day of the shows (Sun 5 Nov) and there are two displays to enjoy, the first at 6.30pm and the second at 8pm.

In the south, the skies of Durham are brought to life with an explosion of colour, as St Cuthbert's Hospice hosts a fireworks extravaganza (Sat 4 Nov). The gates open at 6pm and there is a fun fair and hot food to keep you occupied until the display begins at 7.30pm. Demonstrating the people's love for all things pyrotechnic is Stanley Fireworks, which went ahead in 2016 thanks to the fundraising efforts of the local community and councillors. The event returns again in 2017 and involves entertainment, music and a 25-minute fireworks display with a spy theme. Bet you there is a Bond theme or two in there. Also in Stanley Beamish Hall mark the historic moment of Guy Fawkes' arrest in 1605 with a bonfire and fireworks display (Mon 6 Nov). Enjoy food and drink from the stalls and the sounds of the samba band before the sky is lit up.
