Attack the Block

The Good Girls Revolt, Goliath, Shaun the Sheep, Southbound, Attack the Block and The Exorcist among highlights on Amazon

In 1970 award winning journalist Lynn Povich, along with 46 other women sued Newsweek for sex discrimination. It was a ground-breaking case which allowed women to take on the role of reporter and culminated in Povich becoming the first ever female senior editor for the magazine. In 2012 Povich wrote a book titled The Good Girls Revolt about the case and how it changed the face of journalism which has inspired a new eight episode fictionalised dramatization starting on 28 Oct. Grace Gummer takes the role of the late, great Nora Ephron who in real life left the magazine to pursue her career elsewhere before the case began. The pilot episode is already available to watch if you'd like to get a taste of what the series will be like.

Billy Bob Thornton takes on the role of Billy McBride, a lawyer searching for redemption in another Amazon Original Series Goliath (14 Oct) created by the David E Kelley (Boston Legal, Ally McBeal and LA Law) and Jonathan Shapiro. When McBride agrees to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit against his old firm it leads him and his team to some dark and dangerous places. The LA set show also stars Dwight Yokam, Maria Bello, Olivia Thirlby and William Hurt.

In film, new additions include Luca Guadagnino's lusty and tense reimagining of Jacques Deray's La Piscine. A Bigger Splash (20 Oct) stars Tilda Swinton and Ralph Fiennes as ex-lovers who clash in a sizzling summer time setting. Sports documentary Becoming Zlatan (14 Oct) is an insightful character portrait of footballer Zlatan Ibrahimovic pieced together with old footage and interviews with players and people who have crossed his path. In family entertainment Shaun the Sheep the Movie (1 Oct) is a warm and funny stop-motion animation from Aardman not to be missed.

Amazon have added a plethora of horror films if you're looking for something to watch over the Halloween period. Our picks include gruesome anthology Southbound (7 Oct) which features some gag-inducing moments, Joe Cornish's comedy, Attack the Block (8 Oct), which boasts some grisly monsters and a dazzling John Boyega in his first film role or if you're in the mood for a classic you can't go wrong with The Exorcist (13 Oct).
