M.I.A. blames record label for not releasing new single
British hip-hop star M.I.A. has blamed her record label for the delay in releasing her new track 'Birds'.
M.I.A. has blamed her record label for the delay in releasing her new Diplo-produced track 'Birds'.
The 41-year-old hip-hop star has taken to Instagram to explain why she shared a remix of her new track 'Birds' before the launch of what was supposed to be the original version.
M.I.A. - who released a remix of the track by Blaqstarr - wrote: "Interscope wont clear the diplo bird song so it can't can't be released ! (sic)"
However, the London-born musician did not explain why her label has supposedly decided to block the Diplo version.
It had previously been expected that 'Birds' would become the second single from M.I.A.'s fifth studio album 'A.I.M.', which is due out next month.
M.I.A. previously claimed her new album is likely to be her last.
She said: "It's my last record so I wanted it to be happy. There's no complains on it. [It's] another side to me completely. I don't know if people know [about] that."
She did, though, suggest that she would still indulge her passion for music in the future.
M.I.A. explained: "I'm sure I'll put music out and make music, but as an album, this just came together after [November 2015 single] Borders and it just seemed like it wrote itself very quickly. I had to just go with it."
