Jackie Chan, Dave Franco and Michael Peña have boarded the cast of 'The LEGO Ninjago Movie'.

Warner Bros. have announced the cast of the hotly anticipated follow-up to the animated 2014 film and nabbed the veteran actor, 'Now You See Me' star and 'Ant Man' actor to voice the characters of Master Wu, Lloyd and Kai respectively.

Abbi Jacobson, Kumail Nanjiani, Zach Woods and Fred Armisen complete the line-up as Nya, Jay, Zane and Cole.

The plot is set to follow six young ninja tasked with defending their island home, called Ninjago.

By night, they're gifted warriors, using their skills and awesome fleet of vehicles to fight villains and monsters and by day, they're ordinary teens struggling against their greatest enemy: high school.

'The Mindy Project's Rob Schrab will direct while Phil Lord and Christopher Miller will produce the sequel, which is due for release in 2019.

'The Lego Movie 2' will follow on from 'The Lego Batman Movie', which features the voices of Will Arnett and Mariah Carey, when the latter hits cinemas on February 10, 2017.

Safekeepers for the Lego screen brand Dan Lin, Lord, Roy Lee and Miller will produce the 'The Lego Batman Movie', while 'The Lego Movie's animation supervisor Chris McKay has been brought on board to direct the spin-off.

Skilled writer Seth Grahame-Smith has also penned the script for the movie, having recently been announced as the screenwriter for the much-anticipated 'Beetlejuice 2'.

Meanwhile, 'The Batman Lego Movie' isn't the only spin-off lined up for the foreseeable future as a Ninja-themed film called 'Ninjago' will also follow on September 22, 2017.
