Multi-arts festival returns for its sixth year
LeithLate, the annual, multi-venue arts festival kicks off today with a line-up of over 100 artists and musicians, with exhibitions and events taking place over four days across 25 venues.
Proceedings kick off with the artcrawl as participants descend on 20 venues on and around Leith Walk. Later on, the legendary Afterparty hits the Hibs Supporters' Club with live performances from Nice Church, She-Bang Rave Unit, DTHPDL and Carbs.
On Friday, a series of panel talks examine 'The Politics of Public Art', 'The Value of Art and Artists' and 'Gentrification in Leith'; hosted by List editor Yasmin Sulaiman. Guest speakers include artist Fraser Gray, ex Young Fathers' manager Tim Brinkhurst and creative producer Stacey Hunter.
The weekend starts with a series of mural tours around Leith's historic and contemporary murals, with some of the artists talking about their work. And on Sunday, the Art Mart gives festival-goers the chance to browse artists' wares, featuring the Department of Lost and Found, the Thermos Museum and Penniless and Obscure zine. Bringing things to a close is the LeithLate Closing Party with live music and spoken word. All profits from the party go to Amnesty International.
Various venues in Leith until Sun 26 Jun.
