Alicia Vikander will star in the 'Tomb Raider' reboot.
The Oscar winning actress has been cast as Lara Croft and will play a younger version of the adventurous archaeologist in the action movie, which is set to tell the iconic video game character's origin story, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Alicia's casting comes as a surprise as 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' actress Daisy Ridley previously confirmed she had been in talks about taking on the role.
Speaking in March, she said: "There have been conversations [with the producers and bosses] but I'm waiting for someone to say 'I want you, let's do it.'"
In taking on the role of Lara - created by British gaming company Core Design in 1996 - Alicia will replace Angelina Jolie, who was widely credited for making the movie adaptation of the video game franchise a huge success when she brought the busty British explorer Lara Croft to life in 2001 and then again in 'Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life' in 2003.
Few other details have been revealed for the film's plot, however, the last two video games in the series - with the most recent being 2015's 'Rise of the Tomb Raider - have focused on Lara at the start of her adventures.
Roar Uthaug will direct the movie with Graham King as producer for the MGM and Warner Bros. co-production.
