Jennifer Connelly wants to be an action star.

The 45-year-old actress - who has starred in over 40 movies - revealed she would love to play "the badass" in a movie although she worries that her age could prevent her from being offered such a role.

She told the Sunday Times Style magazine: "It would be fun to do an action movie. I never wanted to be the damsel in distress. I wanted to be the badass. I'm not sure it's going to come up now. A 45-year-old action figure? I might have missed that boat.

"Maybe we need one. I noticed a definite shift, pretty much when I hit 40, in terms of the scripts I was reading. It was like I had suddenly aged 10 years. I still find interesting roles...But I wish there were more of them."

And Jennifer is disappointed by the choice of roles on offer for women over the age of 40.

She explained: "Youth is very much celebrated, and for good reason. It is a wonderful, powerful thing. But so is experience and accomplishment. I don't aspire to play an ingénue, but I don't think it has to be one or the other. Like the only two choices for a woman are as a parent figure, who has no sexuality, or as an ingénue. It doesn't have to be so binary."
